Summary about Cannabis Projects at LIF

Since 2017, Santa Fe province has organized different activities to provide medicinal cannabis to patients who live in this province.
Many of the different activities were performed by LIF.
In September 2017, Santa Fe was the first Argentinian province to request the approval by the National Government to import cannabis flowers.
In that moment, LIF requested to import 50 kg of cannabis flowers from Uruguay.
There was a project whose main objective was to develop and produce one first batch of cannabis oil.
The purpose was to provide this oil to pediatric patients with refractory epilepsy.
These patients would have been included in a research study.

The project had two stages:
1 - Developing and producing a first batch on the pilot scale.
Supercritical CO2 extraction was the method selected to reach the goal.
The Pilot Plant (PP) of the Biochemistry and Pharmacy Sciences School of UNR was the place where this stage was going to be developed.
2 - Technology transfer from PP to LIF to produce the medicine based in cannabis at industrial scale.

One year later, this project could not start because the National Government never approved the import of the flowers.
Today, Santa Fe will try reach the goal through another project, that could be named “Project B”.

Project B contemplates to import oil extract with 99% CBD and no more than 1% THC in bulk. Then, this oil would be divided in glass bottles of 100 ml (Full spectrum naturally derived flower oil extract - 99% CBD / below 1% THC).
The division process would be made at LIF’s facilities and the different quality controls would be made in the Biochemistry and Pharmacy Sciences School of UNR.

Obviously, all the patients will be included in a research study under protocol.
